How to Choose a Holiday Market

It's holiday time!

Are you thinking of doing a holiday market or tradeshow this year? If you're thinking about it, then you probably have a lot of questions about which one to choose. You're in luck: we're helping you decide right now!

How to pick the right market

There are all different types of holiday markets, so how do you pick the right one? Here are some things to consider:

-Your goals. Are you there to introduce your brand to locals, meet with other exhibitors, sell your products to customers, meet local wholesalers, or set up local promotions. If you can figure out what you need, you can find the market that specializes in that area.

-Your budget + time. Can you afford to the booth fee at a large market this year? Could you afford to do more than one market? Will you need to travel and stay to exhibit? Do you have time to make a lot of your products ahead of time? Or to hold onto that finished inventory if it doesn't sell? Can you afford to design a booth and buy packaging materials for purchases?

Some easy ways to exhibit on a budget are to choose a local market, stay with family + friends, recruit friends to help you in the booth, pack lunches, calculate how many products you expect to sell and how many you can afford to make, diy your booth with folding tables, fabrics, + household objects (Pinterest is great for this!), and purchase packaging materials like bags and tissue paper in bulk.

-The audience. How many attendees will be at the event? Think about the booth fee in terms of people. How much are you paying per attendee. Is that comparable to other markets in the area?

The #1 Rule of Choosing a Holiday Market

Stalk their social media first!

How many followers do they have? Are their followers engaged and excited about the event? Does their marketing fit your brand aesthetic? Do they feature and promote exhibitors in their posts and stories? Are featured exhibitors in a similar space as you? Are their followers the type of customers who will be interested in your products? This will help you figure out if you're likely to have success at the market before you sign up.
