Why It’s Important
Your brand communicates what you’re all about in one second. That’s how long you have to hook your dream customers before they make a decision about you.
So we need to build your brand around your dream client.
Who is Your Dream Client?
Hint: it’s not everyone!
I thought this at first. In my first business, I thought everyone wanted skincare. But I ended up wasting my time + marketing dollars on a brand that didn’t attract my people.
I figured that out quickly and rebranded, but not without losing some valuable time + traction.
Instead of focusing on everyone, let’s focus on just one. Pick one person who is your dream client. And learn as much as you can about them.
How do you find Them?
If you already have customers, find your favorite ones. The ones who love everything you do and recommend you to friends. Look through your website and social analytics to find more about them.
If you don’t have clients yet, you can pick yourself, someone you know, someone you’ve seen online. Join facebook groups and ask people to take a survey. Pick one person who you know for a fact would love what you sell.
Build it All Around Them
Your brand name, logo, tagline, colors, and overall aesthetic should speak to you customer. The design elements and photography should communicate what you’re about.
We get emails and dms every single day (seriously) from people we’ve never met before telling us how much they love our brand. They feel like it speaks directly to them. And it’s because we’re talking directly to them. We built our brand around helping a very certain person: a woman starting + growing her business.
So here’s how we did it.
We started with our dream client. She’s a woman in business.
For our brand name, we wanted something feminine that also spoke to growth. So we chose Sprout.
Our aesthetic is clean, minimal, and with a lot of plants. Because that’s what our dream client likes.
The pictures that we use on our website + social media are all of our dream clients: women doing their thing in business.
Find your dream client. Learn about them. And build it all around them.
